Growing up, I’ve heard the countless criticisms and lamentations of my generation. We’re entitled, we’re self-involved, we didn’t have to walk a mile to school everyday in three feet of snow, and so on, and so forth.
The TIME cover from May 20, 2013 took no prisoners on the matter. Featuring an image of a teenage girl taking a selfie on an iPhone (touché), it reads, “THE ME ME ME GENERATION. Millennials are lazy, entitled narcissists who still live with their parents.”
These generalized accusations against our generation have always left a bitter taste in my mouth. When I was in high school, I thought, “We’re just dumb teenagers.” When I was in college, I thought, “We’re just dumb college kids.” And today, I think, “We’re just dumb fledgling adults.”
